# Understanding the Ministry of Home Affairs: Roles, Responsibilities, and the National Internship Program
The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) stands as a pillar of the Indonesian government, serving as the central authority for domestic governance. Directly accountable to the President, this ministry is the driving force behind the formulation, coordination, and supervision of critical policies that shape the nation's political landscape, regional autonomy, demographic management, and administrative infrastructure.
Beyond its daily administrative duties, the Ministry of Home Affairs holds a significant constitutional position. Alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense, it is authorized to fulfill presidential duties should both the President and Vice President be unable to discharge their responsibilities simultaneously.
